| What is Cranisacral Therapy? The CranioSacral technique is a light (weight of a dime), hands-on approach harmonizing with the body's natural hydraulic forces and movements, thus encouraging and enhancing the body's own natural, self-healing abilities. This gentle releasing of chronic tensions within the body can effect major changes in both physical and emotional well-being.

History
Dr. William G. Sutherland was a student of Osteopathic Medicine in the early 1900's when he first considered the possibility that skull bones were moveable “Like the gills of a fish” and were designed for a respiratory motion. He realized that restricted movement might lead to physical and/or emotional problems. Later in 1970 following a remarkable experience assisting an operation, Dr. John Upledger observed a mysterious movement in the membrane system, thus he commenced studying Sutherland’s theories, and is credited with developing CranioSacral Therapy.

A Craniosacral Therapy Session
The session takes place in a quiet, private setting. It is recommended that the client wear loose, comfortable clothing. The session is performed with the client reclining on a bodywork table while remaining fully clothed. The practitioner stands or sits, positioned at various times throughout the session at the client's head, middle torso or feet. During or after the treatment the client may feel energetic, “spacey” or sleepy.

The Craniosacral SystemThis is one of the body's primary systems which extends from the brain to the sacrum and surrounds the brain and the spinal cord with what is called cerebral spinal fluid (CSF), which is a clear, colorless liquid with a watery consistency that carries vital nutrients that nourish the central nervous system. Optimally, it works at a certain rhythm that helps maintain homeostasis, or balance, throughout the body. It may improve functioning of many systems of the body, including the nervous system, the endocrine system, and the digestive system. This therapy can help relieve muscle tension and release pain.
